With our 4 leaders and 36 Scouts/Explorers selected it was time to meet up for the first time as a unit. We chose a nice central location, the MAC Birmingham. There was a buzz of excitement as everyone started to arrive which continued through the leaders’ introductions and explanations of the plans for the afternoon and jamboree overall.
After some formal launch photos, the parents/guardians stayed at the MAC for an information talk with Richard, our Unit Leader, and Liz C, Deputy Unit Leader. Meanwhile, Gez and Liz K, Assistant Unit Leaders, split the Scouts into 4 groups and set the task of roaming Canon Hill Park to take photos of their team with anything that began with J, A, M, B, O, R, E, E. There were some questionable photos, such as one that was with swans said to be under B for bird, but this made the task all the more fun!
The unit launch was a brilliant opportunity for the Scouts to start getting to know one another and the adults and young people alike had a lot of fun. The only thing left was to bring everyone back together and wish them good luck on their summer holiday challenge…to raise £70 each!
